All of our bat boxes are made from solid redwood which is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) sourced timber, and are built to last many years. You really can 'fit and forget' should you wish to - but then you'd miss out on the comings and goings of your residential bats if you did!
One bat box is great - 3 are much better (hence a special offer on purchasing a pack of 3). The reason for our pack of 3 is this allows your bats to move from one box to another during the day, so they can regulate their body temperature. For this reason it is best to have 3 bat boxes fitted around the trunk of a tree (all at the same height of course), but pointing in different directions so that at any one time a box temperature is regulated by the sun or shade. It is advisable to remove some branches to allow easier access for the returning bats.
The same principle can be accomplish on the corner of your house - just fix the bat boxes high-up (ideally just below the eves for additional weather protection) on a corner wall that gets sun and shade at some point in the day. One box could be affixed to the corner of a rear facing wall and the other two on the side wall of your house.
Needless to say that bats must not be disturbed whilst in their boxes - indeed, it is illegal to do so.
Please help bats with a suitable place to roost during the day with our bat boxes.
